Save Our Heritage Organization January 20, 2017, Proctor House In Need of Volunteers

The Save Our Heritage Organization which operates the Proctor House Museum and the Proctor Simpson Barn Theatre will be working to attract more volunteers during 2017.

While 2016 was a very strong year for the organization with very successful shows at the theatre and activities at the house including the filming of a Murdoch Mysteries episode, a lot of work was done by fewer people to make things happen.

Rick Daniels who replaced Anna Rittwage as president of the organization last fall outlined the challenge; "Both the Proctor House Museum and the Barn theatre have been real assets to Brighton and we have no intention of letting things slip. In fact 2017 looks great with 4 shows scheduled and activities being developed around the 150th birthday of Canada and Proctor House. But what we can do will depend on more involvement from the community. Our organization has always depended on volunteers and we need more."

He feels that there should be a strong response once the message gets out.

"Many folks enjoy visiting the museum and the theatre but they don't realize that it is all provided through volunteer help. In fact many think we are operated by the town which is not the case. Also with the growth in our community there are many newcomers who are not linked to us through friends or family.

  • We need to get the message out that we have a lot to offer those looking for involvement in everything from the presentation and preservation of history at Proctor House to the staging of live amateur theatre

Specific activities where volunteers are currently needed include the hosting of tours and events at the museum, the maintenance of the gardens, and the many support functions at the theatre during shows…stage hands, front of the house reception etc.

But we also want to hear about the related skills and interests of all those interested in volunteering. And for all these activities we are situated in Proctor Conservation area which is a pretty nice place to be."

In order to get things underway Proctor House Museum will be open for volunteer orientation and activities on the first and last Wednesday of each month starting in April.

Those interested in volunteering are invited to contact Proctor House Museum at 613-475-2144 or via e-mail at info@proctorhousemuseum.ca . The Save Our Heritage Organization is a registered nonprofit charity located in Brighton Ontario
